Water-based Rust Preventative for Ferrous and Copper Metals
Madison Chemical has introduced Compound RP-111, a water-based rust preventative formulated for ferrous and copper metals. This nearly invisible, dry-to-the-touch film provides short-term indoor protection for up to four weeks on previously cleaned parts. With no oil or solvents, this product offers lower use costs and improved workplace safety.
Compound RP-111 does not contain nitrite, silicate, phosphate, hydroxide, chlorine, phenol, or sulfur. It may be used prior to heat treating operations. The product is typically applied at 2% to 10% by volume in water, with concentrations up to 15% for extended rust protection. It can be used in temperatures ranging from 70°F to 160°F, depending on dry-off time and handling needs. Heating the solution can reduce drying time and improve overall protection. Optimum concentration depends on testing and variables such as temperature, humidity, and desired storage duration.
For best results, treated parts should not be stacked or nested until fully dry. Methods that accelerate drying through high-velocity air or centrifugal spinning can reduce film thickness and rust protection and should only be used if testing confirms satisfactory results.
Madison Chemical technical sales representatives are available to assist manufacturers in determining ideal dilutions, dwell times, and operating procedures to achieve consistent performance.
