Expansion of Grooving Grades Features the Latest in Coating Technology
Walter has expanded its line of Tiger∙tec® Gold CVD grooving grades with the addition of WKP13G, WKP23G and WKP33G. These new grades are designed primarily for grooving, groove turning and copy turning, with parting off as a secondary application.

The latest WKPxxG grades showcase advancements in cutting tool coating technology. Each insert features a highly textured aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) coating to resist crater wear and a medium-temperature titanium carbo-nitride (MT-TiCN) layer on the substrate to protect against flank wear. Multiple-stage post treatments create a smooth surface and provide a high level of toughness. Enhanced with a gold-colored top layer for optimal wear detection, users typically experience a 30% to 40% increase in tool life in existing applications.
The Tiger∙tec Gold WKPxxG CVD grades are available in:
- Double-edged GD26 inserts for universal grooving
- Double-edged DX18 inserts for small part machining
- Single-sided SX inserts for deep parting
Grade Breakdown
- WKP13G: Delivers exceptional wear resistance during continuous cutting at high speeds. Best suited for steel and cast iron in ISO P10 and K20 material groups.
- WKP23G: A universal grade covering approximately 80% of applications. Provides high wear resistance in continuous to occasionally interrupted cutting of steel and cast iron (ISO P20 and K25).
- WKP33G: Offers superior toughness and wear resistance for unfavorable conditions and interrupted cutting of ISO P30 and K30 steels and cast irons.
Combined with Walter’s globally recognized grooving chip breakers, these grades deliver the next generation of productivity and cost savings for end users.
