Solid Carbide Drill Range Features new Deep Hole Drilling Capability
Walter has expanded the range of the Drivox·tec™ IKON DD170 Supreme solid carbide drill with new deep hole drilling capability. The new additions to the product range include 16 × Dc (3 to 16 mm in diameter), 20 × Dc (3 to 16 mm in diameter), 25 × Dc (3 to 12 mm in diameter), 30 × Dc (3 to 12 mm in diameter), and 40 × Dc (3 to 11 mm in diameter), all according to Walter standards. Fractional inch sizes are also available in these ranges.
The drill with internal coolant is designed for holemaking in steel and cast iron (ISO P and K material groups). It supports use with emulsion, oil, and in some cases minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). Application areas include automotive, aerospace, energy, mold and die making, and general mechanical engineering.
The coolant grooves feature a new profile that improves process reliability when drilling soft materials. The drill also features 12 grooves, allowing for more regrinding operations.
Standard dimensions include 3 × Dc and 5 × Dc in accordance with DIN standards, while 8 to 40 × Dc follow Walter norms. Walter Xpress dimensions are available up to 12 × Dc. The drill is manufactured using grade WJ30EY and features an aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) multi-layer coating on the tip.
Potential benefits include maximum productivity due to the latest Krato·tec® coating technology and high process reliability in challenging holemaking applications such as drilling cross-holes or inclined exits. The tool also enables precise positioning due to its innovative, precision-ground tip geometry, eliminating the need for pilot drilling up to 12 × Dc. The drill has a 140° point angle.
The Walter lineup consists of three tool categories. Supreme tools represent the highest level of technology and performance. Advance tools balance price and performance, while Perform tools provide an economical solution for smaller batch production.
