VERTICAL MACHINING CENTER FOR SMALL LOTS QUICK CHANGEOVERS

The compact and ergonomic Matsuura MX-520 from Methods Machine Tools is ideal for shops that are beginning 5-axis machining or doing small lot production with quick job changeovers.

Methods Machine Tools, Inc. (Sudbury, MA) is offering the Matsuura MX-520 vertical machining center that is designed to provide shops with a smooth transition to 5-axis machining. The unit features an ergonomic design and software that permits fast set ups and processing of challenging parts. It is especially suitable for companies that are beginning 5-axis machining or doing small lot production with quick job changeovers.

Ergonomic features on the MX-520 were designed with the user in mind. For example, the short distance of only 15.2 in (385 mm) between the machine door and the center of the table affords easy access to the workpiece and tools, while the wide door opening of 31.7 in (805 mm) enables rapid load and unload.

The MX-520 also features built-in ease of operation, as well as Matsuura's Intelligent Meister System (MIMS), which monitors the overall production process. MIMS ensures reliable operation, high product quality, simple data management and low power consumption. In addition, standard CAMplete Truepath Software provides an integrated suite of G-code editing, optimization, analysis and verification tools.

"The MX-520 offers all the advantages of a compact, user-friendly machine, with Matsuura's renown rigidity and high-precision, 5-axis technology. It provides an ideal entry-level solution for smaller-scale production in 5-axis high-speed machining applications," commented Dave Lucius, VP of sales at Methods Machine Tools.

The Matsuura MX-520 is capable of machining workpieces of up to 20.5 in x 13.8 in (520 mm x H350 mm) and weighing up to 440 lb (200kg). X-Y-Z axis travels are 24.8 in x 22 in x 20 in (630 mm x 560 x 510 mm). The MX-520 features a direct drive 25 hp spindle motor and is available in 20,000 rpm (standard) or optional 12,000 rpm spindle speeds.
