Trumpf (Ditzingen, Germany) announced it is redesigning its business in Taiwan. In addition to marketing machine tools and lasers, the technology company is strengthening its electronics division by expanding the service and maintenance efforts where, within two years, the number of service employees has increased from two to ten.

Trumpf power supplies are the core of any production system for semiconductors or flat screen panels. According to information provided by the German Trade and Invest Agency, Taiwan is a world leader in this area, having enjoyed high growth rates in the past few years.

Also, Trumpf will cease production of medium-sized press brakes, the TruBend 3000 series, in Taiwan for cost reasons. However, the company will continue to produce these press brakes in Pasching, Austria. In the immediate future plans call for the manufacture of all of Trumpf?s press brakes at this location. The production freeze in Taiwan will result in a loss of 20 of the 75 jobs at the Tao-Yuan Shien facilities near Taipei.

Trumpf?s Taiwanese subsidiary was launched in 1999. Until July 2008, sales for machine tools, laser technology and power tools were handled by an outside distributor. The addition of a training and demonstration center is recent, and it is equipped with the latest in machine tools and lasers. The electronics area also includes a testing laboratory and extended customer service space.
