Vincent Bozzone, a renowned expert for improving performance in job shops, proudly announces the release of the third edition of his influential book, Speed to Market: The Future of Job Shops – Embracing the New Paradigm. This latest edition provides a comprehensive update on the evolving strategies and practices essential for job shops aiming to excel in today’s competitive landscape.

Interestingly, Bozzone has uncovered a paradigm shift that deals with the “invisible problem” that plagues job shops, offering a new perspective on the job shop organization. The highlight of the book is The New Paradigm for Job Shops, which focuses on the job shop organization which  Bozzone shows as being the wrong structure. He shows how to redesign the job shop along process lines, which provides greater control and other benefits. Unlike typical mass production, which focuses on efficiency and inventory management, job shops work on a make-to-order basis and must prioritize minimizing lead times and shipping on time. This new paradigm has the potential to impact job shops like the introduction of CNCs.

This updated edition builds on prior editions by introducing new insights into dynamic scheduling, process-oriented thinking, and the practical application of concepts and tools specifically designed for job shops. Bozzone discusses typical operational difficulties and offers effective ideas for reducing lead times, increasing shop floor efficiency, streamlining order procedures, and shipping on time.

The book also discusses the importance of responding quickly to RFQs, handling end-of-month rushes, and combining information technology with organizational reforms. Bozzone also includes additional chapters on the function of conceptual space in company expansion and the shift from hierarchical to process-oriented management.

Bozzone’s website, JobShopExpert.com, provides important tools and expert advice to custom manufacturing business owners and professionals. The site is intended to assist users in improving performance and productivity within job shops. It offers practical tools, insights, and strategies customized to the job shop industry’s unique issues, with the goal of improving operational efficiency and financial success.

Bozzone presented this revolutionary insight at the FabTech Expo in Orlando on October 16.
