Haimer USA (Villa park, IL) introduces its Power Series ? including Power Shrink Chucks and Power Collet Chucks ? suitable for all applications but ideal for high-performance machining as well as heavy milling with a high chip volume.
Power Shrink Chucks are universally applicable high-power shrink-fit chucks with optimized geometry that drastically reduces the transmission of vibration. This feature makes them especially suitable for high-speed processes where excellent surface finishes are vital, and for heavy milling.
In shrink-type holders, Haimer achieves vibration control in two ways. First, the company offers short, shrink-fit chucks that ? solely due to their compact length of only 65 mm ? minimize runout that causes vibration. These chucks are designed for heavy-duty or high-speed metal cutting. The second type is the extended Power Shrink Chuck, whose special exterior geometry controls vibration. The step angle or hollow-shank taper of these tool holders has a large diameter, which makes them very rigid. Yet, they are precisely tapered toward the nose of the chuck to enable access to even hard-to-reach corners when milling or drilling. Haimer offers these chucks in 130 mm and 160 mm lengths and guarantees concentricity of 0.00012 in (0.003 mm).
Both versions of the Power Shrink Chuck are equipped with cool-jet bores, ensuring that the coolant reliably reaches the cutting edge around the tool. In situations where a machine offers relatively little space for tools, the long-length Power Shrink Chucks are an especially ideal solution,? says Brendt Holden, president of Haimer USA. ?With this chuck, the same tool can be used for rough machining and finishing, with excellent results in both cases.?
The new Power Collet Chucks ? guided at both the front and back ends to avoid tilting and twisting ? were developed for high-performance machining, and can be used in a variety of ways, for virtually any kind of finishing, roughing or drilling work. They have a reinforced wall thickness and an especially rigid exterior contour, making them stable and resistant to vibration. The internal taper is designed so that all standard ER collets can be used. Haimer engineers also ensured minimal projection of the high-precision collet and nosepiece on the front end of the chuck. Maximum clamping length is maintained, enabling full holding strength without unnecessary overhang.
When the Power Collet Chucks are used in conjunction with Haimer?s high-precision collets, Haimer guarantees a run-out accuracy of 0.0002 inches (0.005 mm) measured at three times the cutting tool diameter. ?The high efficiency of the Power Collet Chuck means that machine operators can employ them for a variety of applications without worry,? Holden says. ?They make trial runs unnecessary and eliminate the need of re-clamping the tool between rough and finish work, which saves time and money.?
