New Digital Cutting Tool Reconditioning Portal Puts Customers Fully in Control
The Sandvik Coromant tool reconditioning service has been upgraded to give manufacturers complete control over their reconditioning process. Sandvik Coromant, a metal cutting specialist and manufacturing solutions provider, has introduced a streamlined, fully online experience that replaces a previously manual, multi-stage workflow and significantly reduces quoting and turnaround times.
Historically, customers requesting tool reconditioning had to rely on a chain of communications between sales teams, distribution centers and reconditioning hubs. Receiving a quote often took several days before reconditioning work could begin. The Sandvik Coromant tool reconditioning service addresses this challenge by removing unnecessary steps and simplifying the customer journey.
A new online portal transforms the process. Customers log in, enter the tool’s product code and quantity, and receive an instant quote. This capability enables immediate decision making and gives users full control. In most markets, Sandvik Coromant also covers shipping costs, taxes and tariffs, creating a seamless end-to-end experience. On the platform, users can select their preferred shipping box, add order notes and submit requests quickly.
Once an order is placed, customers can track every stage of the process. The portal shows which global reconditioning hub will handle the tools and provides direct contact details for the responsible team. Completed orders and historical reconditioning data are stored automatically, giving full transparency for production planning. Customers can also track how many times tools have been reconditioned, helping optimize inventory decisions.
“The goal is a consistent, reliable turnaround time of 21 days from the moment the customer hits ‘send’ on the order,” said Matthew Johnson, product manager for reconditioning at Sandvik Coromant. “Customers benefit from full visibility, faster turnaround and complete confidence in the value of reconditioning. It’s about putting control back in their hands while ensuring we meet the highest standards in tool renewal.”
Customers can continue reconditioning tools as long as tool quality meets their requirements. Reconditioning a tool three times typically delivers at least 50% savings compared with purchasing new tools.
“While we guarantee tools can be reconditioned up to three times and maintain 100% of their original performance, we know tools are often reconditioned many more times and still perform exceptionally,” said Johnson.
The Sandvik Coromant tool reconditioning service works alongside the company’s tool recycling program for tools that reach end of life. This combination of streamlined reconditioning and a buy-back program helps manufacturers maximize tooling value while supporting sustainability goals.
