Engineered specifically to streamline the milling of steel, stainless steel, cast irons, aluminum, or difficult-to-machine materials, the new Widia (Latrobe, PA) M6800 series delivers numerous performance and productivity breakthroughs, including roughing and finishing with the same cutter.
Specifically, improved flutes and high axial and radial rake angles reduce cutting forces for improved production and greater tool life. New elliptical angles generate true 90 deg shoulders where required.
?Pocket milling, plunging, circular milling, and profile milling are a few of the applications that will benefit from the new M6800 series,? says Jay Verellen, product manager. ?We now offer maximum performance and productivity for virtually all shoulder-milling applications.? The M6800S, M6800M, and M6800LX offer a maximum depth-of-cut of 6mm, 10 mm and 15.7 mm, respectively. Three grades and two geometry choices are available in each of the M6800 sizes, offering a simple choice for light machining of cast irons through heavy machining of steels and high-temperature alloys.
The latest additions to the M6800 Series of milling tools are aimed at increasing the productivity of aluminum milling for users and expanding the company?s shell mill body line with new metric sizes. The tools are applicable over a wide range of ramping, slotting, square shoulder, and face-milling operations in the general engineering, aerospace, die/mold, and power-generation industries.
New M6800 inserts for aluminum milling generate less vibration than competitive tools, resulting in improved surface and wall finishes with fewer ?steps? on vertical walls, due to being peripherally ground with a polished rake face and material-specific geometry. The expanded range of metric cutter bodies, all with a hard nickel coating for resistance to chip buildup, offers more choice for the most demanding applications.
Also new are inserts for M6800S cutter bodies with 0.8 mm (0.031 in) radius. These new 7 mm inserts are stronger than competitive offerings, allowing greater productivity without sacrificing machining reliability.
