SAF Installs Aluminum Coil Processing Line

This line can meet surface critical requirements for painted and anodized aluminum coil processing.
SAF's new CTL processing line can handle 0.024 in - 0.125 in thick aluminum coils up to 60 in wide, ID 18 in - 22 in and 100 feet-per-minute.

Southern Aluminum Finishing Company, Inc. (Redding, CA) recently installed a Cut-To-Length (CTL) aluminum coil processing line in their SAF-West plant. The heart of the line is a Herr-Voss 6 hi corrective leveler to enhance processing of non-ferrous coil for surface critical sheet with the flatness important for architectural building applications.

This new CTL processing line can handle 0.024 in to 0.125 in thick aluminum coils up to 60 in wide, ID 18 in to 22 in, and 100 fpm. Newly renovated electronic controls for both the leveler and the flying shear enable more precise and reliable production. An in-line slitting head and flying shear minimize processing time. The leveler’s rollers gives SAF the capability to meet surface critical requirements for painted and anodized aluminum coil processing, not always available from other toll finishing providers specializing in carbon steel or other non-surface critical coils.

The CTL coil processing line supports both existing SAF manufacturing and third party toll processing orders from other manufacturers in northern California. The new line also adds to their 60 in Blanking Line production capabilities. The company now offers CTL aluminum coil processing from SAF-West and their GA facilities. Combined with an expansive aluminum coil, sheet and extrusion inventory, this equipment enables them to reduce delivery times nation-wide for blanks and special lengths, while providing customers with improved aluminum sheet flatness and quality.

Based in Atlanta, GA, SAF is a nationwide aluminum extrusions and sheet distributor, metal fabricator, and aluminum finisher specializing in Kynar painting and architectural anodizing. They also distribute column covers, architectural panels, and commercial roofing trim to architectural specifiers, glazing contractors, and other industries. SAF West serves the western U.S., Canada, and Pacific Rim markets.
