The manufacturer of engineered fall protection systems and accessories supplied 1,975 linear ft of fall protection track and the highest self-retracting lanyards in an occupied building to One World Trade Center.

Rigid Lifelines® (Morgantown, PA) a provider of rigid horizontal fall protection systems, rooftop fall protection systems, soft goods, and accessories, supplied fall protection to the One World Trade Center spire in New York City. “We are proud to have designed the system that will help keep the workers of One World Trade Center safer at elevation,” said John Kemp, the company’s national product and sales manager.

The company designed and supplied a total of 1,975 linear feet of fall protection track and the highest self-retracting lanyards in an occupied building to One World Trade Center. This includes horizontal and vertical track systems, which provide continuous fall protection coverage to building maintenance workers from the top floor, to the flashing beacon light at 1,776 ft above the streets of New York City.

“The more unique the scope of work, the more customization is required in order to provide the right fall protection solution,” said Kemp. “The right fall protection solution for the One World Trade Center project required an immense amount of customization.”

In June, Rigid Lifelines engineering manager Arnie Galpin climbed the spire to perform a system inspection. The inspection was the final step in the year long project, which was a collaboration between the company and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
