Resistance Welding Technology Takes Center Stage

Booth C-12829: The heavy duty Heron 20 kJ Capacitor Discharge projection welding machine from T. J. Snow provides high welding current output and fast rise time to process large ring projection welding applications with ease. The short pulse duration of the CD process makes it much easier to projection weld automotive parts made from the new lightweight steel alloys.

In Booth C-12829, T. J. Snow Company (Chattanooga, TN) will display and have live demonstrations of a wide variety of machinery, accessories and supplies, including large-capacity Capacitor Discharge (CD) resistance welding technology – perhaps the most exciting process in resistance welding today. A heavy duty Heron 20 Kilojoule (kJ) CD projection welding machine will be available for sample welding. CD’s high welding current output and fast rise time enables large ring projection welding applications to be processed with ease. The short pulse duration of the CD process makes it much easier to projection weld automotive parts made from the new lightweight steel alloys. New three-phase CD welders can be powered by much smaller incoming lines than traditional resistance welding machines. Three-phase resistance welders can often be justified on power savings alone, since many of the older resistance welders in use for decades are single phase and require high amperage incoming primary power.

Another three-phase resistance welder on display will be a TECNA Mid-Frequency Direct Current (MFDC) spot welder. This versatile 160 KVA press-style machine is ideal for job shops that need to weld a wide variety of materials, including aluminum. A second TECNA machine on display will be a light duty Rocker Arm Style Spot Welder that is attractively and ideal priced for sheet metal shops. A UNITROL “Soft Touch” safety enhancement system will be demonstrated on two machines, the TECNA rocker arm and a SlimLine pedestal-type spot welder from T. J. Snow.

The latest resistance welding control technology on display will include a WTC Model 6000 MFDC control mounted to a T. J. Snow Projection Welder equipped with a new RoMan “Fast Rise” MFDC power supply. This same machine will also feature an ENTRON iPak Inverter control, plus T. J. Snow’s new FVS System that is designed to insure successful nut welding. Also on display will be two TECNA portable spot welding guns, a Scissors-type and a C-type, that will both be suspended with TECNA spring balancers from a Gorbel Bridge Rail System. A variety of resistance welding test instruments, force gauges and electrodes will also be available for inspection, plus a selection of literature on items that could not be represented in the booth. Of particular note are two of T. J. Snow’s major distinctives: their training and service capabilities. Since the resistance welding process is not widely understood, they hold one-day resistance welding seminars in various regions throughout the U.S., with customized versions of the seminar available for in-plant training sessions at customer locations.

Long known for their “service after the sale” with experienced service techs and two speedy corporate airplanes available to respond quickly, T. J. Snow can often literally “save the day” when a resistance welder develops a problem.
