MC Machinery Systems, Inc.'s Toyokoki Press Brakes are designed to minimize power consumption when sitting idle. By using less power, Toyokoki helps fabricators combat increasing operation costs caused by rising electricity prices. Toyokoki offers energy savings in both its APB electric and HYB hybrid lines.

How it Works: The ram on a press brake is cycling (going up and down) less than a quarter of a shift in a typical short run job shop. Yet the pump on a conventional hydraulic brake is running, and oil is flowing, 100 percent of the time, wasting power and profits. This could be likened to leaving a delivery truck idling in the parking lot.

The Toyokoki APB is a fully electric press brake that uses virtually no power until you step on the pedal. No oil is used, and thus very little maintenance is required. The APB?s combination of direct drive AC servo motor, ultra-precise ball screw (constructed to withstand 3x rated capacity), and absolute rotary encoder ensures a remarkable 1 micron (+/-.000039 in) ram positioning accuracy.

There is a limit to how much tonnage you can get out of a direct drive AC servo motor. So for higher-tonnage applications, Toyokoki offers their hybrid electric-hydraulic HYB series. The HYB uses no solenoid valves or heat exchangers. Unlike a conventional hydraulic, the only time oil flows on an HYB is when you step on the pedal. Otherwise it is silent. This reduces power consumption by 50 percent or more. On the HYB, AC servo motors control oil flow rather than the valves used for ram positioning on conventional hydraulic brakes. Velocity is constant and positioning is accurate regardless of oil temperature or viscosity, thus providing +/- 3 micron (.000012 in) ram positioning accuracy.
