Next-generation Automated Metal Powder Handling System for 3D Printing
The PowTReX powder conveying system represents the next generation of automated powder handling for metal additive manufacturing at scale. Powder handling equipment manufacturer Volkmann USA has introduced the latest PowTReX system, originally launched in 2018, to help metal additive manufacturers produce large volumes of high-quality parts using multiple 3D printers. The PowTReX powder conveying system automatically transfers 3D printing powders from a container or supply hopper, extracts and sieves used powder after a completed build to remove oversize particles, and collects reusable material for return to the printing process.
Featuring proprietary material handling technology proven in more than 100 additive manufacturing installations worldwide, the system draws metal powder from storage using vacuum conveying into a powder buffer. Material is then fed to an ultrasonic screener that separates agglomerates while allowing on-spec powder to continue to the printers. The fully enclosed, explosion-proof design protects material from contamination while shielding operators from direct contact and eliminating manual powder handling.
The portable PowTReX powder conveying system can be installed with 3D printers from all major manufacturers and supports a wide range of materials, including tungsten, cobalt, silver powder, iron, stainless steel, alumina, nickel chrome, copper, titanium, carbide dust, and corundum. An optional inert gas configuration is also available to support sensitive materials and controlled environments.
