Walter’s Xtra·tec XT M5137 shoulder milling cutter and double-sided indexable insert.

Walter has expanded the product range of the Xtra·tec® XT M5137 shoulder milling cutter. With a 90° approach angle, the cutter is suitable for face milling, shoulder milling, ramping, pocket milling and circular interpolation.

The indexable inserts for the cutter feature an extended range of corner radii by adding r = 0.8 mm for the TNMU11T3 and r = 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm for the TNMU1605.

The M5137 milling cutter accepts two sizes of triangular, double-sided indexable inserts, with six cutting edges per insert. The TNMU11T3… has a maximum cutting axial depth of cut of 5 mm and the TNMU1605… has an axial cutting depth of 8 mm.

There are two insert geometries: the G27 for universal applications and the G57 for easy-cutting applications. The inserts are directly pressed to provide the maximum cost-efficiency and feature Tiger-tec® Gold coatings.

The shoulder milling cutter has two pitches for different applications and a diameter range of 1.0″ to 6.0″, or 25 mm to 160 mm. These milling cutters are available in both shell-mill and Weldon shank adaptations.

The primary applications for cutter are milling steel and cast iron (ISO P and K material groups). The secondary application is milling stainless steel and other metals with challenging cutting properties (ISO M material group). The areas of application include industries such as general mechanical engineering, aerospace, medical, electronics and precision mechanical.

Potential benefits of the Xtra·tec® XT M5137 shoulder milling cutter are high process reliability due to the stable, double-sided indexable inserts, an extended application range due to the different corner radii of the TNMU indexable inserts and simple tool selection. Users realize significant economic gains because of the low cost of Tiger-tec cutting tool materials and having six cutting edges per insert.
