MULTI-TASKING TURNING CENTER FOR DONE-IN-ONE PERFORMANCE

The QUICK TURN NEXUS 350-II MSY from Mazak uses two spindles that are both equipped with a C-axis capable of being indexed at 0.0001 deg increments to accurately position the part for square facing, slotting cuts, and precisely drilling holes.

Mazak's (Florence, KY) multi-tasking QUICK TURN NEXUS 350-II MSY is a next-generation CNC turning center that provides uncompromised performance, advanced technology, productivity and value to job shops of all sizes.

The QTN 350-II MSY's headstock features a 12 in main chuck, mounted on a 40 hp, 3,300 rpm integrated motor main turning spindle for heavy-duty metal removal. The turning center also features a 10 in second chuck that is mounted on a 35 hp, 4,000 rpm second spindle for high speed, high accuracy machining of small diameter workpieces.

Both spindles are also equipped with a C-axis, capable of being indexed at 0.0001 deg increments to accurately position the part for square facing and slotting cuts and precisely drilled holes. The C-axis spindles are full-function CNC controlled axes for milling. Additionally, the QTN 350-II MSY utilizes a 12 position drum turret and 10 hp, 4,000 rpm rotary tool spindle for milling, drilling, and tapping operations, allowing many processes to be completed in a single machine cycle.

Another standard device is the Tool Eye, an automatic tool-presetting system. By bringing the tool tip into contact with the Tool Eye, offset of tool nose position, tool measurement, and data registration are done automatically, ensuring accuracy and reducing setup time. The Tool Eye also can be programmed to monitor tool wear on a periodic basis in an automatic mode.

The new MX Hybrid Roller Guide System is integrated into the QTN 350-II MSY to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The MX Hybrid Roller Guide System increases vibration dampening to extend tool life, handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates quicker to shorten cycle times, consumes less oil for "greener" operations, and lasts longer with less required maintenance.

The sixth-generation MATRIX NEXUS CNC simplifies multi-tasking metalworking operations on the QTN 350-II MSY. It offers a 12 in LCD color display and the familiar QWERTY keyboard. A pointing device, acting like a mouse, and USB port for downloading programs are also at the operator's fingertips. Conversational part programming can be accomplished in Mazak language while the machine is cutting another part, or off-line in a CAD/CAM system. Once imported into MATRIX, a realistic 3D cycle simulation verifies the machining cycle and checks for machine interferences, greatly reducing the need for test cuts.

A variety of automation strategies can be integrated with the QTN 350-II MSY, from an automatic bar feeder to full robotic integration of either pedestal-mount or overhead-mount robot arms, driving required labor costs down and productivity up.
