Miyachi Unitek Explores Laser Micro Welding Technology at Workshop
The laser technology manager covered the basics of laser micro welding, material and plating selection, part fit-up considerations, and ideal fiber and pulsed Nd:YAG micro welding applications.
Miyachi Unitek Corporation (Monrovia, CA), a leading manufacturer of welding equipment and laser processing systems, recently showcased its expanded laser cutting capabilities at the LIA Lasers for Manufacturing Event (LME) held October 23-24 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel, in Schaumburg, IL.
Dr. Geoff Shannon, the company’s laser technology manager, presented Laser Micro Welding: Technology, Capability and Applications as part of the LIA’s Laser Welding & Joining Workshop. Dr. Shannon covered the basics of laser micro welding, including material and plating selection and part fit-up considerations. He highlighted a variety of applications where both fiber and pulsed Nd:YAG micro welding are ideal and also gave a general overview of the latest laser technologies.
On display at their booth was the company’s brand new laser tube cutter that features four axes linear stages, tube diameter handling from 0.03 in to 0.25 in, tube auto feed and a wet cutting capability. Miyachi Unitek application engineers staffed the booth and discussed attendees’ cutting applications.
