Mazak to Unveil New QRX-50MSY for High-volume Production at DISCOVER 2025
At DISCOVER 2025, Mazak will unveil the highly anticipated QRX-50MSY CNC turning center, delivering the speed, precision, and versatility required for high-volume production of small, intricate parts—all in a compact and affordable design. The QRX-50MSY combines advanced milling capability, a second turning spindle, and Y-axis functionality to provide exceptional performance and productivity for machining components such as EV input shafts, mid-shafts, and valve fittings over 2 inches in diameter.
Smaller Footprint, Greater Efficiency
The QRX-50MSY represents the latest evolution of Mazak’s proven HQR Series 2-turret/2-spindle CNC turning center, offering similar milling and Y-axis capabilities while boasting a 15% smaller footprint. With compact floor dimensions of 119.3” (3,030 mm) by 86.6” (2,200 mm), the machine maintains impressive throughput and reduced cycle times. Its modular design uses identical left and right spindles, upper and lower turrets, and carrier drives to maximize cost efficiency and return on investment.
High-Performance Design and Capabilities
Engineered for precision, the QRX-50MSY accommodates a maximum bar diameter of 2.0” (50 mm) with a 6” (152 mm) chuck and features a slant bed design for rigidity and chip evacuation. Both the main and second spindles operate with 20 hp (15 kW) motors at speeds up to 6,000 rpm. The 12-station, 24-tool-position upper and lower turrets feature 7.0 hp (5.3 kW) rotary tool spindles capable of 6,000 rpm for versatile machining performance.
Fast, Accurate Tooling with BMT 45 Interface
Toolholding on the QRX-50MSY uses the BMT (Basic Metric Tooling) 45 interface, enabling fast, precise tool changes and optimized performance. The interface supports static and driven tools and accepts radial, axial, and angular holders. Tools can also rotate 180 degrees for secondary operations—eliminating unnecessary tool changes and improving efficiency.
Automation and Part Handling Innovations
For streamlined production, the machine includes a work unloader positioned above the second spindle, adaptable for use with either a gripper or parts bucket. An auto parts catcher on the lower turret can collect parts directly from the spindle or handle end-of-bar remnants, enhancing automation and minimizing downtime.
MAZATROL SmoothG CNC Control
The QRX-50MSY comes standard with Mazak’s MAZATROL SmoothG CNC control, which supports both conversational programming and EIA-ISO G-code formats. Featuring a large 19-inch touch screen and 3D model-based graphical interface, the SmoothG offers intuitive operation similar to smartphones and tablets. It integrates advanced programming functions to deliver high-speed, high-accuracy machining with simplified workflows.
