CERATIZIT Develops New MaxiMill – S-Power Series Specifically for Cast Iron
CERATIZIT has developed its new MaxiMill – S-Power face milling cutters with 12 insert pockets at Ø63 mm and double-sided indexable inserts to overcome tool wear, burr formation and breakout challenges typical in cast iron machining applications. The system also includes an innovative double wedge clamp to ensure inserts are securely attached and easy to replace during operation.
“Cast iron machining challenges force many shops to settle for low feed rates,” says Eric Gerringer, CERATIZIT USA, Technical Director. “With an optimal number of cutting edges, the MaxiMill – S-Power allows for higher feed rates while also improving surface quality and reducing burr formation.”

The double-sided indexable inserts offer eight cutting edges and are manufactured from premium substrates with Dragonskin coating for enhanced tool life and smooth cutting action. Robust insert seats and the double wedge clamping system ensure secure retention, resulting in low axial and radial run-out for higher accuracy and consistency.
To further enhance ease of use, each wedge is equipped with anti-twist protection, and each holder diameter uses a dedicated clamping wedge. A single screw mechanism on the double wedge system enables fast, precise insert changes.
The MaxiMill – S-Power face mills are available in standard diameters from Ø56 to Ø125 mm. A setting angle of 88° provides the highest possible number of cutting edges. The peripherally ground inserts ensure close tolerances and high surface quality. Increased insert thickness also delivers exceptional rigidity and durability during demanding machining conditions.
MaxiMill – S-Power complements existing CERATIZIT face milling systems and is ideal for machining cast iron materials such as ductile cast iron, compacted graphite iron and gray cast iron. The range includes ISO P/K inserts with M geometry and corner radii of 0.4 mm, 0.8 mm and 1.2 mm. Available grades are CTPK220, CTCP230 and ceramic.
“Our automotive and heavy industrial customers will benefit from the higher performance of the MaxiMill – S-Power,” adds Gerringer. “Braking systems, engine blocks, pump housings and machine tool beds are only a few examples of cast iron components that this face mill will machine efficiently.”
