Air Turbine Tools’ 201SV Pencil Tool, which is engineered to provide exceptional performance, operator comfort and safety in industrial material removal applications.

Air Turbine Technology Inc., the inventor of the World’s first governed high-speed turbine spindles, live tools and hand tool ranges, highlights the 201SV straight hand tool, engineered to provide exceptional performance, operator comfort and safety in industrial material removal applications.

The 201SV is available in multiple governed speed options, including 40,000, 50,000, 65,000 and 90,000 RPM. These high speeds are maintained in cut enabling faster and cleaner cutting action, improving precision and delivering finer finished surface quality.

The key performance difference lies in its “Governed Speed”, setting it apart from all other tools. Governed speed in Air Turbine Tools refers to a patented “O Ring” governor that increases airflow as the tool comes under load, ensuring torque and speed remain near the rated speed when cutting – even in cutting steel. Despite its compact size, the 201SV delivers power ratings of 0.15 HP (0.11 kW) for the 40,000 RPM model and 0.2 HP (0.15 kW) for the 50,000, 65,000 and 90,000 RPM models.

With no working time limits the 201 represents a revolutionary advancement not only in air tool cutting efficiency but also in operator comfort and safety. Weighing only 6 ounces (0.17 kg), this tool reduces operator fatigue and allows for extended use without compromising productivity. With a vibration magnitude of just 0.62 m/s² r.m.s, the lowest level of any power tool range, the 201SV significantly reduces hand-arm stress and improves operator comfort. This low vibration level allows for extended use, with 128 hours and 15 minutes before reaching the Exposure Action Value (EAV) of 2.5 m/s² A(8), and 513 hours before reaching the Exposure Limit Value (ELV) of 5 m/s² A(8).

It’s quieter and lighter too. The 201SV operates at less than 65 dBA, protecting the operator’s hearing and improving the work environment.

The 201SV’s air consumption is minimal and further optimized by the governor which draws only the necessary volume of air at 90 PSI to maintain the rated cutting speed: ranging from 3 CFM (1.41 L/s) at idle for the 40,000 RPM model to 5 CFM (2.36 L/s) for the 90,000 RPM model, with working flow between 4.8 CFM and 7 CFM (2.27 L/s – 3.3 L/s).

The 201SV features a slide valve for quick shut-off, enhancing safety and control during operation. The 201SV is also available with an optional patented brake that stops rotation in a few seconds.

Maintenance-free, no oil and no lubrication is required for these direct drives result in major savings and preventing part contamination. With only two moving parts, the proprietary governed turbine and air-cooled bearings, Air Turbine Tools require no maintenance, eliminate downtime, repairs and reduce operational costs.

This tool’s slim profile, with an outside diameter of 0.74″ (18.8 mm) on the shaft and a total length of 6.11″ (155.19 mm), allows for close access in hard-to-reach areas.

The 201SV is suitable for any application with a speed rated cutting tool or mounted point at 1/8” (3 mm) capacity, including deburring, engraving and mold finishing. Turbine repair and weld removal make it a versatile tool for industrial use. It operates with clean and dry air at 90 psi (6.2 bar).

By combining these unique features, the Air Turbine Tools 201SV pencil tool offers improved precision, enhanced safety and increased productivity for operators who now only need to guide the tool with a light hand as “speed does the cutting”.
