Laser Cutting System for High Variation Job Shops

The OPTIPLEX 4 kW fiber laser system from Mazak Optonics uses a Type 10 resonator for improved operating efficiency when processing the thinnest steel up to 1 in mild steel and retaining optimal cutting conditions during extended unattended operation.

This 4 kW system uses a Type 10 resonator for improved operating efficiency when processing the thinnest steel up to 1 in mild steel and retaining optimal cutting conditions during extended unattended operation.

Mazak Optonics Corporation (Elgin, IL) offers the OPTIPLEX 4 kW fiber laser cutting system that provides unique flexible performance features that specifically meet the needs of high variation job shops.

Designed to integrate Intelligent automation features with superior cutting speeds, the OPTIPLEX uses Mazak AO|5 automated setup functions. This AO|5 system overcomes the typical challenges of using varied workpiece materials by improving productivity without compromising cutting conditions. These optimal cutting conditions can even be retained during extended unattended operation.

Compared to conventional laser processing machines, the OPTIPLEX fiber laser system significantly increases the productivity of thin worksheet cutting with impressive accuracy and cuts up to 0.750 in thick CRS. This fiber laser is designed to process reflective materials with greater thicknesses and at greater speeds than its CO2 counterpart. The fiber design can significantly reduce operating costs for applicable material types and thicknesses.

With rapid traverse rates of 4,724 ipm, the rugged construction of this machine provides heightened productivity, reliability, and greater part throughput.

The OPTIPLEX also features the new PreView 2 control with a 15 in touch screen and straightforward user interface to simplify machine operation. The graphical interface clearly visualizes the cutting path and automatically determines process conditions including the required lens, nozzle, feedrate and laser output for different materials and thicknesses.

Other beneficial features include a 4,000 watt Type 10 resonator for improved operating efficiency that can process from the thinnest steel up to 1 in mild steel.

In addition to its user-friendliness, this fiber laser system is environmentally friendly. Mazak manufactures the machines in an underground, eco-friendly factory with ISO-4001 certification that confirms the production facility does not adversely affect air, water or land. Further adding to its eco-friendliness, the OPTIPLEX 3015 Fiber offers an 80 percent reduction in oscillator and chiller electrical power consumption as well as a 100 percent reduction in laser and optical path gases when compared to conventional laser processing.

This fiber laser system also offers flexibility by adopting a “building block” approach for laser capacity growth. This means the machine easily integrates into Mazak automation and perfectly complements an extensive line of CO2 lasers.

Mazak Optonics is a major supplier of laser-cutting systems, offering 50 laser models and leading the industry in the implementation of emerging laser technologies.
