INSERTS IMPROVE MACHINING OF STAINLESS, HIGH-STRENGTH STEELS AND SUPER ALLOYS
New premium SGE inserts for Kennametal?s Mill 1-14/18 platform are engineered to provide improved performance and strong customer value for companies machining stainless steels, super alloys and high-strength steels.
“They are a perfect choice for such applications as face milling, shoulder milling, pocketing, contour milling and full slotting,” says Dennis McNamara, global product manager, Kennametal (Latrobe, PA). The aerospace, automotive, energy and power generation, medical, food processing, chemical processing, and die and mold industries are likely to benefit from these SGE inserts.
Innovative micro-geometry features contribute greatly to the new SGE inserts? enhanced performance, including a 20 deg rake angle, negative T-land and small hone. Results include up to a 25 percent higher feed capability, significantly reducing cycle times, and lower cutting forces, which contributes to a 35 percent longer tool life. Test results in producing 90 deg walls have proven excellent as well.
?Increasing productivity and reducing milling costs, particularly when machining expensive exotic materials, are essential for continued quality improvement and keeping manufacturing companies in business,? McNamara says.
