INDEX Wins Award for Innovation

They receive the MM Award for the innovations found in their new MS22-L multi-spindle automatic lathe with Swiss-type functionality.
Dr. Ing. Dirk Prust (left), the global chief executive officer and managing director of INDEX, and Karl-Heinz Schumacher, the manager of multi-spindle automatic lathes, pose with the MM Innovation Award presented for the INDEX MS22-L.

At AMB 2018, INDEX Corporation (Noblesville, IN) received the MM Award from MM Machine Market magazine in the machine tools category for the innovations found in their new MS22-L multi-spindle automatic lathe with Swiss-type functionality, the first multi-spindle automatic lathe to enable simultaneous machining of long turned parts on six spindles, offering two tool carriers per spindle station. This lathe also allows cut-off and rear-end machining operations via its swiveling synchronous spindle. Incorporation of driven tools enables drilling and milling operations.

The highly productive MS22-L allows for significant savings in terms of labor and floor space by providing the capacity of several machines within a single footprint. These efficiencies are further enhanced by reduced need for cooling systems, handling systems and chip conveyors. This machine provides the greatest benefits to manufacturers of serial parts, such as injectors for combustion engines and nozzles or pistons for fluid power components. The lathe also offers strong performance for the production of shafts, such as those used in electric drives. Additionally, the ability to produce long parts on a multi-spindle opens new possibilities for some workpieces in the medical segment.
