How to Make Permanent Part Marking Easy

For directly marking small parts up to full sheets, X Series, Tag Master 3 and KM-1207 benchtop dot peen marker systems from Kwik Mark can process flat, curved and irregular surfaces on materials ranging from hardened tool steels to delicate plastics.
The X12 dot peen marker from Kwik Mark includes twin rigid upright column leadscrew and ball slide design, brushless servomotors, non-contact limit home sensors and a large T-slot table for fixturing. Its cantilevered marking head provides a clear open line of sight, while the marking head can retract “back” to clear other tooling and equipment. Up to six axes are motion control ready with no PC or control box required. Additional I/O and programmable Z-axis (full column height) can be custom integrated with logic. The patented iTeach function allows operators to use the marking tip as a “pointer” to define the text path.

X Series dot peen markers from Kwik Mark Inc. (McHenry, IL) improve overall operation and streamline every aspect of marking products with a smarter design that boasts high performance for the most demanding applications. The cantilevered marking head provides a clear open line of sight, while the marking head can retract “back” to clear other tooling and equipment. Up to six axes are motion control ready and no PC or control box is required. For custom integration with logic, additional I/O is available. This dot peen marker features machine-tool quality construction with twin rigid upright column leadscrew and ball slide design, brushless servomotors and non-contact limit home sensors, and a large T-slot table for fixturing. It is also available with programmable Z-axis (full column height). A true file based solution with the patented iTeach function allows operators to use the marking tip as a “pointer” to define the text path. Teach the starting point of a line (one point), the angle to use for angular text (two points), and the radius for arc text (three points), without prints, measuring tools or even the skillset to do layout work. The latest embedded controls feature CF card memory with preprogrammed functions, job selection or data input and bar code input ready. These machines are future upgradable and field rebuildable.

Kwik Mark also offers the fully automatic Tag Master 3 feeder/marker that uses dot peen technology to permanently mark industrial components. It was developed to speed up production and eliminate the problematic tag feeding issues of escaping tags from the bottom of the magazine. The tags are transferred from the top to eliminate the jamming, scratching and other problems associated with bottom feed “coin changer” type escapements. This means thickness tolerance, sharp edges, etc. are no longer issues. Its display includes a batch counter, cycle timer, current status, production history log and percentage of completion information.

Kwik Mark also offers the KM-1207 benchtop dot peen marker with a larger 12 in x 7 in marking area to suit most industrial marking applications. It can engrave on materials ranging from hardened tool steels to delicate plastics. This dot peen marker is a chip-less engraver that is ideal for marking tags, legends and machine parts with high resolution images. Its unique dot peen process “floats” on the material surface during the marking operation, making it ideal for flat, curved and irregular surfaces. The system has built-in serializing, date coding and graphic engraving functions. The KM-1207 machine is self-contained, requiring no PC for operation, and features the latest embedded control technology with a dual memory embedded processor with compact flash card. It includes a detachable keyboard as well. There is no software to learn or manuals to read. By using the Express Text feature, operators press one key and enter the text to mark on the included keyboard. Or they use the patented iTeach function that uses the marking tip as a “pointer” to define the text path. The Kwik Mark benchtop dot peen marker is also available in a standard 6 in x 4 in marking area. Other sizes include 24 in x 24 in and even up to 4 ft x 8 ft travels for full sheet processing.

All X Series, Tag Master 3 and KM-1207 benchtop dot peen marker systems are manufactured in the U.S.
