Miller Electric’s new handheld laser welder empowers more shops to harness the potential of laser technology and address workforce challenges.

Miller Electric Mfg. LLC, a leading manufacturer of welding equipment, announced the launch of its second handheld laser welder: the Miller® OptX™ 1kW handheld laser welder. With 1000 watts of power, this model offers many of the same capabilities as its OptX 2 kW counterpart while still maintaining the high performance and productivity gains welders expect from Miller.

The Miller handheld laser welding series is designed to address the growing demand for efficient and cost-effective welding solutions in manufacturing and fabrication environments that face workforce challenges or need to unlock higher productivity — especially as the American Welding Society projects that 330,000 new welding professionals will be needed by 2028. These welders are best suited for high-volume, low-mix operations requiring precision welding applications — specifically those with precise fit-up where high productivity is needed but automation may be too costly. Common industries that this applies to include sheet metal, fabrication, manufacturing, aerospace and defense, transportation and HVAC.

This OptX 1kW makes it easy for operators of all skill levels to achieve precise and consistent welds. Key features include:

  • High-precision welding capabilities: The laser welder’s low, concentrated heat minimizes distortion effects and reduces spatter to dramatically reduce pre/post-weld processing while ensuring high-quality welds on a range of metals including:
    • Steel and stainless steel
    • Galvanized
    • Inconel
    • Titanium
    • Brass
    • Copper
    • Mild steel
    • Dissimilar metals (e.g., stainless steel to copper)
  • User-friendly application: Reduces the learning curve for both new and seasoned welders to drive output and productivity up to 10 times compared to traditional welding processes.
  • Advanced safety features: Game-changing technology of the OptX 1kW comes with built-in features which exceed industry standards and ensure maximum operator safety.  Virtual resources and an international support network make it simple to comply with industry safety requirements.

“At Miller, we are committed to helping operators safely push the boundaries of what’s possible in welding technology”, said Jon Nelson, Product Manager. “The OptX 1kW represents our dedication to providing solutions that won’t only help our customers today but will set them up for long-term success as they are challenged to bring more efficiency into their operations.”

The OptX 1kW is now available through Miller distributors. To see if it’s the right fit for your operation, learn more and request a demo at https://www.millerwelds.com/products/optx.
