FABTECH 2017: Metalform

The 2017 edition of FABTECH is on track to be one of the largest metal fabrication events ever at McCormick Place in Chicago, and our special coverage provides technical reviews of some of the metal forming and fabricating machinery, tooling, systems and accessories that will be exhibited to help you navigate the show floor and manage your time while you’re there.
Booth A5023: This innovative 750 ton deep draw hydraulic press from Greenerd Press has a double-moving platen that is fully integrated with two 6-Axis FANUC robots that load/unload parts and prompt the press to perform the multiple operations required to produce a heavy duty high pressure cylinder tank. The double-moving platen draws the long part at one speed and tonnage, and while still moving, switches to another speed and tonnage to coin the part. To retrieve the newly drawn part out of the press, a robot moves in between the double platens, and when in position, instructs the press when and at what velocity to extract the part.

FABTECH 2017 is North America’s largest collaboration of technology, equipment and knowledge in the metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing industry. The event takes place November 6-9 and will occupy over 750,000 sq ft in the McCormick Center in Chicago, where more than 1,700 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees will have full access to special events, presentations, educational sessions and live demonstrations of the latest technology and integrated solutions, along with one-on-one exchanges with exhibitors and networking with industry leaders. There will also be opportunities to attend keynote presentations, a state of the industry outlook, discussions on key industry issues that influence manufacturing, and more. You don’t want to miss this:

Deep Draw Hydraulic Press System Run by Robots
To perform the multiple operations required to produce a heavy duty high pressure cylinder tank, a 750 ton deep draw hydraulic press from Greenerd Press uses a double-moving platen that is fully integrated with two 6-Axis FANUC robots that load/unload parts and prompt the press to cycle for operations.

Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems for Efficient Handling of Heavy Dies
Ideal for press rooms with limited space that continuously move a high volume of heavy dies in and out of storage, automated systems from Atlas Technologies are fully programmable and interface with other handling equipment to create a custom storage system that is specific to a facility’s needs.

Virtual Press Design Technology Takes Center Stage
Using virtual press design technology via a user-friendly interface, customers can work with Beckwood Press engineers to input a variety of variables (bed size, tonnage, speed, heat parameters, etc.) and generate a preliminary sketch of new machinery that meets their specific application requirements.

Power Straightener for Processing High Yield Materials
The upgraded Series 250 power straightener from COE Press Equipment uses over 30 percent increased strength and rigidity to process Advanced High Strength Steel coil widths from 1.0 in to 54 in, thickness from .010 in to .187 in, and coil weights up to 20,000 lb.

No More Rework or Cleaning of Parts Due to Corrosion
Clear Pak BIO corrosion inhibitor (VCI) packaging film from Daubert Cromwell is flexible, puncture and tear resistant and uses proprietary, plant-based corrosion inhibitor chemistry to protect valuable metal components during storage and shipment.

High and Low Capacity Die Carts and Work Stands
The Mini-Titan low capacity standard die cart line from Green Valley Manufacturing has a 250 lb to 2,000 lb capacity range, and their newly designed work stands from the ever-expanding Heavy Duty Titan Industrial Work Horse line has capacities of 500 lb per pair to 100,000 lb per pair.

Move Abrasive, Oily Ferrous Chips and Parts with No Jammed Belts or Clean-Out Maintenance
MagSlide Beltless Chip and Parts Conveyors from Bunting Magnetics use ceramic or rare earth magnets hidden beneath a stainless steel slider bed to move metal along the surface. There are no external conveyor belts to jam, tear or wear out, or external moving parts to fail, compromising safety and productivity.
