Drilling and Boring Tools are Optimized for Precision, Quality and Time Savings
Essential to machining, drilling and boring tools perform distinct yet interconnected functions in the formation and precision finishing of holes. Innovations like a new SWS Rough Boring Head enable fast and precise diameter adjustments, helping shops optimize their processes. And, micro drills deliver exceptional performance despite their small size. Those solutions and others result in enhanced efficiencies and boosts in productivity.
New SWS Rough Boring Head Offers Fast and Precise Diameter Adjustment
BIG DAISHOWA (Hoffman Estates, IL) has announced an addition to its rough boring head lineup — the SWS Rough Boring Head. This twin-cutter boring head allows for diameter adjustments without a tool measurement unit, making setups faster and easier while maintaining a high level of precision.
The Synchro Setter connects two cartridges to provide simultaneous diameter adjustment to both cartridges. Operators can make final diameter setting adjustments using a simple measuring device, such as a micrometer or dial caliper.
The SWS range spans ø 41-to-110 mm (ø 1.61″-to-4.33″), and all SWS heads have coolant holes as standard.
“The KAISER SWS Boring Head is an option for shops without a presetter, helping to speed up setup,” said Alan Miller, senior engineering manager. “BIG DAISHOWA is known for its ruggedness, precision and superior performance. The SWS boring head offers the same durability and precision as the other boring heads in our lineup.”
Solid Carbide Taps are Ideal for Demanding Materials

Monaghan Tooling Group (Dayton, OH) has introduced Vergnano H Series Solid Carbide Taps, which deliver high-performance tapping solutions for demanding materials such as hardened steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys and more. Manufactured from premium micrograin carbide and engineered with advanced geometries and coatings, Series H taps are available from 3-to-16 mm (.118”-to-.63”) for blind hole and through-hole applications.
Six tap families are purpose built for a specific combination of hole type, thread form and material group. All offer unparalleled tool life, process reliability, and thread quality. Vergnano H-Series High Performance Machine Taps allow increased speed while maintaining tight tolerances and ensuring the structural integrity of the critical components. Versions are available to create blind holes and through holes with speed, precision, and reliability, making them ideal for critical applications within automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, agriculture and general applications.
HB29 is a general-purpose cutting tap for 3 mm-to-10 mm (0.118”-to-.394”) blind holes in medium to long chipping material, like cast iron, aluminum, and aluminum alloys.
HB43 and HB45 are high-performance machine taps with through coolant for 3 mm-to-16 mm (0.118”-to-.63”) blind hole tapping applications in short chipping material like cast iron and cast aluminum.
HB80 is a cold forming tap with oil grooves for 3 mm-to-10 mm (0.118”-to-.394”) blind holes or through holes for chip free threading in alloy steels and other difficult materials.
HB81 is a fine pitch cold forming tap with oil grooves for 8 mm-to-16 mm (0.315”-to-.63” ) blind holes or through-holes for mild and stainless steels, aluminum and aluminum alloys, and nickel and nickel alloys.
H130 is a cold forming tap for 3 mm-to-12 mm (0.118”-to-.472”) blind holes or through holes for medium chipping materials like hardened steel.
Tool Drills and Chamfers Both Sides of the Workpiece in One Operation
HEULE Precision Tools (Cincinnati, OH) featured DCC tooling, which drills and chamfers both sides of the workpiece in a single operation without turning the workpiece or changing tooling, at EASTEC 2025, held earlier this year. In addition to significantly reducing cycle times, solid carbide construction provides optimum concentricity and drilling performance. Ideal for holes from 4.0 mm-to-10.0 mm (.15”-to-.39”), this unique technology consists of a solid carbide drill body with a SNAP chamfering system added, allowing the tool to create a bore and then chamfer both bore edges. Because the drill bit and tool body are manufactured in one piece, DCC produces very precise results at high cutting speeds/feed rates. Bore depths of up to 2.5 x bore diameter can be attained, with chamfers up to 0.8 mm. This unique arrangement allows quick setup and reduced downtime due to easy handling. Easily replaceable carbide chamfering blades with material specific coatings. Heule DCC with custom drill geometry is available for all materials including cast iron, stainless, titanium, aluminum and steel applications.
The drilling geometry and coating are adapted according to the workpiece material. If larger chamfers are required on the front edge of the bore, a stepped drill configuration can be integrated in to the tool. DCC is well suited for machining even and slightly uneven bore edges. The defined cutting process with ground carbide blades ensures complete edge breakage — resulting in a burr-free front and back of the workpiece.
Pilot Drill is Small in Stature and Delivers Big Performance

The WTX – Micropilot from CERATIZIT USA, Inc. (Schaumburg, IL) is an innovative micro drill used for spot drilling small components with intricate geometries. Working in tandem with CERATIZIT’s WTX – Micro, the pilot drill is small in stature and delivers big performance with exceptional accuracy and time-savings for micro-sized components.

The risk of micro-sized components becoming scrap is high. Several things can go wrong: drills run off, drill holes get crooked, tools break, and the workpiece itself can become damaged. With a special drill point angle of 160°, the WTX – Micropilot guarantees maximum positioning accuracy and prevents wandering while drilling to achieve extreme precision within a single run. Since it is designed to co-drill with the WTX – Micro, the usual mirroring required for drilling inclined and curved surfaces with an inclination up to 50 is no longer necessary, saving time and tool changes.
Additionally, the WTX – Micropilot is coated in CERATIZIT’s innovative Dragonskin for optimum chip clearance and extended tool life. It also has spiral internal cooling channels to ensure maximum flow of cooling lubricant for improved surface finish.
Bore Gauge Delivers Accurate, Repeatable Measurements

Sunnen Products Co. (St. Louis, MO), a global leader in high precision bore finishing, exhibited its cutting-edge manufacturing solutions at EASTEC 2025, held earlier this year. Among the products Sunnen presented was the PGE-6000 Electronic Bore Gauging System. This sophisticated instrument combines accuracy and versatility, offering a menu-driven operator interface and compatibility with SPC software for fast and easy data collection. The PGE-6000 is equally at home on the shop floor or in a controlled laboratory environment, providing reliable and repeatable measurements for a wide range of bore sizes.
