Device Protects Ball Bearing Retainer Cages

Throw out your rubber bands and twist-wire! Superior Die Set’s Cage Saver retracts ball bearing retainer cages during die-handling and maintenance and protects the assembly from water and detergent during pressure washing.
Superior Die Set’s Cage Saver
Superior Die Set’s Cage Saver retracts ball bearing retainer cages during die-handling and -maintenance and protects the cage and bearings from water and detergent during pressure washing. The accessory also provides safe, secure storage of the upper die assembly when separated from the lower die.

The costliest and most fragile element in a stamping die’s ball-bearing guidance system is the retainer cage that carries and secures the bearings in predefined matrix arrangement. It’s estimated that more than 90% of all catastrophic damage to retainer cages (of the suspended / hanging-type) occurs during die handling,  especially when flipping the upper-die shoe assembly for maintenance and repair.

The CageSaver from Superior Die Set Corp. (Oak Creek, WI) eliminates damage risk so diemakers no longer need to use rubber bands, tape, nylon tie straps, twist-wire, etc., to secure retainer cages. The accessory maintains the cage in a fully and safely retracted position during all die handling activities. The cage remains completely enclosed by a translucent polycarbonate sheath (optional) that shields the cage and ball bearings from water and detergent during pressure washing of the die. A rugged elastomeric pad provides for cushioned storage of the upper die assembly on the toolroom floor or on a storage rack.

The CageSaver is configured to work with inch- and metric-series diameters, all standard nominal diameters, and all styles of suspended retainer cage designs (A-, D- and L-type) available in North America.
