Lucifer Furnaces (Warrington, PA) recently shipped two RD7-H14 Red Devil furnaces to Crystex Composites LLC (Clinton, NJ), a manufacturer of Mykroy/Mycalex glass-bonded mica material that is used for electrical and thermal-insulating. The RD7-H14 units complement two existing units in use for glass-ceramic parts annealing and lab testing in their ISO:9001 certified facility.

These Red Devil series furnaces are affordable, economical, durable units constructed with reinforced and welded sheet metal shells lined with 4½ in of multilayered firebrick and mineral wool insulation.  The firebrick is precision dry-fit inside the 9 in x 12 in x 14 in chambers with staggered seams for reduced heat loss while allowing for thermal expansion.

A ceramic hearth plate supports 25 lb workload per sq ft of hearth area and protects the floor brick. An adjustable latch on the horizontal swing door allows for a positive seal. Easy-to-replace heavy-gauge, low watt density heating elements, regulated with a Honeywell Digital Temperature Controller provide uniform heat.

Charles Clement, PhD the vice president of engineering at Crystex Composites, says he chose to add to the Lucifer furnaces currently in use because of their simple and compact design, high temperature capability and the long life of the heating elements and insulating materials despite hundreds of thermal cycles. In addition, he reports the Lucifer models to be very reliable, easy to maintain and competitively priced.  Dr. Clements notes his experience of excellent tech support and service from Lucifer Furnaces.
