The advanced milling systems, solid carbide end mills, and proven carbide inserts on display will demonstrate how manufacturers can achieve greater process security, longer tool life, and improved productivity when machining materials such as hardened steels, refractory metals, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, Inconel®, and other heat-resistant superalloys.

Manufacturers producing critical aerospace and defense components face ongoing challenges related to heat generation, vibration, and rapid tool wear when machining these materials. CERATIZIT cutting tools address these challenges through advanced tooling geometries, high-performance carbide grades, and innovative cooling technologies that help maintain stable machining conditions and predictable tool performance.

“Machining aerospace and defense materials requires tooling solutions that withstand extreme heat, heavy loads and vibration,” says Steve Kuhnle, CERATIZIT U.S. Business Development Specialist for Defense. “Our technologies combine high-performance carbide substrates and proven geometries that allow manufacturers to maintain stable machining conditions and improve productivity in demanding applications.”

Among the technologies CERATIZIT will showcase at AeroDef is the MaxiMill – 211-DC indexable milling system, designed specifically for process-secure milling of heat-resistant superalloys and titanium. The cutter uses DirectCooling technology, which delivers coolant precisely to the insert flank where heat generation is highest. The cutter body is produced using additive manufacturing, allowing complex internal coolant channels that cannot be produced with conventional methods. This design improves heat management and tool life while providing higher cutting parameters in materials with low thermal conductivity.

Also featured will be the MaxiMill 211–KN indexable insert porcupine cutter, which uses a 15 mm insert platform optimized for stable shoulder and slot milling operations in hardened steels and high-strength aerospace alloys. With positive insert geometry that reduces cutting forces and vibration, the cutter can perform a range of operations from roughing through semi-finishing, reducing tool changes when machining complex aerospace components.

For high-efficiency material removal, CERATIZIT will present its MaxiMill – HFC high-feed milling system, available with 12 mm and 19 mm inserts. The system’s high-feed geometry directs cutting forces axially into the spindle, lowering spindle load and vibration while maintaining high metal removal rates. The design allows aerospace manufacturers to reduce cycle times when machining large structural or engine components while maintaining stable machining conditions.

Attendees can learn more about CERATIZIT cutting tools in the BlueLine solid carbide end mill series, designed to deliver reliable performance and consistent surface finish in hardened steels, stainless steels, and alloys. These tools feature optimized helix geometries for vibration control and wear-resistant coatings that provide predictable tool life in demanding aerospace production environments.

Complementing the BlueLine series is the SilverLine universal solid carbide end mill series, which offers flexible machining across multiple materials commonly used in aerospace and defense applications. Featuring CERATIZIT’s Dragonskin coating and universal geometry for ISO P, M, and K materials, SilverLine tools help reduce tooling inventory while maintaining reliable performance across multiple operations.

In addition to its milling systems and solid carbide tooling, CERATIZIT will highlight CG70 GX and CG70 LX carbide grades engineered for demanding aerospace and defense machining conditions. CG70 GX provides wear resistance and edge stability in abrasive materials such as refractory metals, tungsten, and molybdenum, while CG70 LX offers enhanced toughness for machining high-strength alloys including Inconel and other heat-resistant superalloys.

“Our focus is on supporting aerospace and defense manufacturers working with difficult-to-machine materials,” adds Troy Wilt, Managing Director CERATIZIT USA. “Innovations in cooling, additive manufacturing, and carbide grade development are core to CERATIZIT’s ability to help manufacturers maintain reliable processes and improve productivity.”

CERATIZIT cutting tools capabilities are further supported by the company’s broader commitment to quality, sustainability, and regulatory compliance across the industries it serves. Through its vertically integrated tungsten supply network in the United States, including Global Tungsten & Powders, CERATIZIT maintains access to every stage of tungsten processing from raw material conversion to the production of high-purity ammonium paratungstate. This integration strengthens supply chain security while ensuring consistent material quality for manufacturers producing critical aerospace and defense components.
