Braddock Metallurgical, Inc. (Jacksonville, FL) recently announced that Braddock Metallurgical Aerospace Services (Boynton Beach, FL) received the prestigious ?Small Business Supplier of the Year? recognition from United Space Alliance (USA; Cape Canaveral, FL), a Boeing/Lockheed Martin joint venture that is NASA?s prime human spaceflight operations contractor.

Founded in 1953, Braddock Metallurgical is now the largest heat treat supplier in Florida and a leading international provider of heat-treating services to manufacturers across a range of industries, from aerospace to transportation. Heat treating is used to alter the characteristics of metal parts to enhance desired traits like hardness or to eliminate undesirable traits like material stress that can cause the part to fail. The company?s capabilities span a comprehensive range of processes from annealing to vacuum hardening.

The privately-held firm is among the nation?s leading brazing, heat-treating and sintering resources for aluminum, iron, steel, and other alloy parts like turbine blades, high-pressure fittings, medical devices, metal-cutting tools, and weapons. It has the largest car bottom furnaces available on the East Coast. Its processing capabilities include comprehensive state-of-the art inspection and non-destructive testing. Its metallurgical lab and consulting services are dedicated to problem-solving and advanced engineering. The company is ISO/AS9100 certified, accredited by Nadcap, and a member of the Metal Treating Institute (MTI).

Braddock Metallurgical Aerospace Services has been a flight hardware special processor for over 20 years working with NASA and USA. It has supported missions to put the Hubble Telescope into space and to build and maintain the International Space Station (ISS). The company was recognized by USA for superior performance and turnaround time related to heat treatment of Space Shuttle flight hardware.

?We are very proud to have received this award,? said Steve Hutchinson, general manager of Braddock Metallurgical Aerospace Services. ?For years we have concentrated on building our thermal processing operations to become a core competency. Our vision has been to establish this facility as a leading supplier of critical hardware in the aerospace market, and other markets like wind-turbine, ground-turbine, and medical that require conformance to exacting component specifications. This award ? from one of the most demanding buyers in the world — signals that through our dedication, commitment, efficiency and painstaking attention to quality, we have achieved our goal.?

Currently, the company is implementing thermal processing parameters and approvals for the Ares 1 two-stage rocket and solid rocket booster. NASA conducted the first major ground test on August 25. These components will be used to propel NASA?s new Orion spacecraft to the ISS, the moon, and ultimately Mars under the Constellation program now being designed to resume human space exploration.

?They are an exceptional team in Boynton Beach,? said George Gieger, president of Braddock Metallurgical, Inc. ?Our entire company recognizes their outstanding contribution not only to the science and technology of thermal processing, but also to the future of space exploration. As NASA works to advance space technology with the Constellation program, we too will be working to advance the core competency at Boynton Beach. All of our customers will benefit from the additional capabilities and efficiencies we implement as a result of this longstanding relationship with NASA and United Space Alliance.?

The Braddock Metallurgical group of companies provides customers its unique ?Good Treatment Guarantee? and commitment to helping them succeed through its technical expertise and assistance. Headquartered in Jacksonville, the company has operations in Tampa (Riverview), Boynton Beach, Daytona Beach, Atlanta, Bridgewater, NJ and Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
