ASTM International Steel Committee Awards Thomas Mach
ASTM International Committee has presented the Award of Merit to Thomas J. Mach, quality control manager at Mach Industrial Group in Houston, Texas.
ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys (West Conshohocken, PA) has awarded Thomas J. Mach with an Award of Merit. This award and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
Mach was honored for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the standardization of steel forgings for wrought fittings, steel and stainless steel pipe and tube, and special applications.
A member of ASTM International since 1995, Mach participates on several A01 subcommittees and has served as secretary of the A01 section on forgings for more than 12 years.
He also chairs the group on welding fittings and was producer vice chairman of A01 for a six-year term. The committee has honored his past work with an Award of Appreciation and Award of Excellence. Mach is also a member at large on the executive subcommittee of Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys, and received the B02 Gary M. Kralik Distinguished Service Award in 2011.
The firm also awarded Daniel Edelman, UCS development metallurgist at Nucor, with the the Kenneth J. Boedecker Jr. Distinguished Service Award for his exemplary contributions on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products.
A member at large on the executive A05 subcommittee, Edelman also serves on Committee A01 on steel, stainless steel and related alloys and is chairman of Subcommittee A01.19 on steel sheet and strip. Committee A01 recognized his contributions with an Award of Appreciation in 2008. He has been a member of ASTM International since 2001.
A graduate of Michigan Technological University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, Edelman joined Nucor in 1999 and accepted his current role in 2008. He specializes in the development of sheet steel products and is a member of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology in addition to ASTM International.
