Amada Weld Tech points out its synergistic capabilities for producing coiled guidewires for medical catheters.

The Amada Weld Tech collaboration with Amada Press System brings new capabilities to medical device production, particularly for guidewire and coil manufacturing. By uniting Amada Press System’s precision forming expertise with Amada Weld Tech’s advanced micro-welding and laser processing, this partnership delivers a comprehensive, high-performance solution for medical device manufacturers seeking tighter tolerances and higher throughput.

Amada Press System’s WH-2A, a 13-axis CNC dual-point coiling machine, excels in ultra-fine wire coil processing for medical guidewire formation. It processes ultra-fine wire coils at high speed with exceptional precision and reduced setup time. Operators can make fine adjustments easily using servo-driven mechanisms, while a cutting method switching feature allows quick changes between straight and rotary cuts. Additionally, the MEC Spring-Forming Machine Division offers multiple coiling machines capable of processing stainless steel, platinum, and PTFE-coated materials. See the WH-2A in action here.

This precision coiling process integrates seamlessly with Amada Weld Tech’s advanced coil welding systems, including arc and laser welding options. Arc welding is ideal for doming coiled wire ends, while laser welding enables both doming and seam welding along the coils. Laser processing solutions such as the WL-300A workstation optimize productivity for small and medium-volume medical device production. The WL-300A includes a laser source, galvo scanning beam optics, Z-axis motion, camera observation, and a CDRH Class 1 enclosure. Watch a video introduction to the WL-300A here.

“Previously, we were unable to fulfill customer requests for welding coils,” said Motoi Teranishi, MEC Manager at Amada Press System. “However, through our collaboration between Amada Weld Tech and Amada Press System, we can now effectively address these needs.” Added Mark Boyle, Director, Product Engineering and Applications, Amada Weld Tech: “With Amada Weld Tech’s exceptional customer service, we have grown beyond being just a machine manufacturer to becoming a trusted partner in solving our customers’ challenges. We are confident that this collaboration will allow us to deliver even greater value.”

Combining Amada Press System with Amada Weld Tech creates a one-stop manufacturing solution that ensures consistent quality across processes. This partnership reduces risk, enhances production speed, and improves coordination between coil formation and welding operations.
