Advanced Fiber Laser for Cutting Thick Plate Fast

Compared to CO2 laser systems, the HyIntensity® Fiber Laser HFL030 from Hypertherm significantly simplifies table design requirements and integration, lowers operating costs and drastically reduces total cost of ownership.

Compared to CO2 laser systems, this fiber laser cutting system significantly simplifies table design requirements and integration, lowers operating costs and drastically reduces total cost of ownership.

Hypertherm (Hanover, NH), a U.S.-based manufacturer of advanced cutting systems, has released a new 3 kW fiber laser system—the HyIntensity® Fiber Laser HFL030 with a recommended cut capacity of 3/4 in (20 mm) for mild steel, a 1/2 in (12 mm) for stainless steel, and 3/8 inch (10mm) for aluminum.

Like all HyIntensity Fiber Laser systems, the HFL030 is specifically optimized for cutting applications. It comes complete with pre-developed cutting processes and all the needed components for significantly simplified table integration and operation. As a result, the system can cut thicker materials in some cases much faster than many higher powered competitive systems. In other words, this 3 kW system has the cut capacity of other 4 kW fiber laser systems without sacrificing cut quality.

When compared with CO2 laser systems, the fiber laser cutting process significantly simplifies table design requirements and integration. Operating costs, thanks in part to the high energy efficiency of the fiber laser, and maintenance requirements – which are virtually nonexistent – are also much lower than with CO2 laser for lower total cost of ownership.

“HyIntensity Fiber Laser systems are easily integrated into a wide range of cutting machine types, allowing service centers and fabricators to expand their business by adding high precision fine feature cutting to their operations,” said Doug Shuda, the product marketing manager for Hypertherm fiber laser products.

All of the HyIntensity systems were developed and manufactured by Hypertherm in the U.S., making this the only company to offer both laser and plasma cutting expertise.

Hypertherm designs and manufactures advanced cutting products for use in a variety of industries such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, and automotive repair. Its product line includes handheld and mechanized plasma systems and consumables, as well as fiber laser and now waterjet products, in addition to CNC motion and height controls and CAM cutting software.

The New Hampshire-based company’s systems are trusted for performance and reliability that result in increased productivity and profitability for hundreds of thousands of businesses, with a reputation for cutting innovation that dates back more than 40 years, to 1968, with its invention of water injection plasma cutting.

The associate-owned company, consistently named one of the best places to work in America, has more than 1,300 associates along with operations and partner representation worldwide. www.fiberlasercutting.com
