Mazak?s VARIAXIS 730-5X II provides high-speed, five-axis machining with a 30-tool magazine, a 50-taper spindle with high-performance characteristics, and can easily be expanded to include Palletech material handling technology.

Mazak Corporation's (Florence, KY) high-performance VARIAXIS 730-5X II provides high-speed, heavy-duty, five-axis machining of large, complex parts. The machine is equipped with a 30-tool magazine standard or 80-tool or 120-tool optional magazines.

The system's powerful 50-taper spindle features high-performance characteristics, including a maximum spindle speed of 10,000 rpm and 40 hp. The 1,654 ipm rapid traverse rate in X-, Y-, and Z-axes reduces cycle times. Additionally, the machine's high-precision tilting rotary table has an A-axis (tilting) rotation of 150 deg and a C-axis rotation of 360 deg, both in increments as small as 0.0001 deg. Machine travels are 28.74 in x 33.46 in x 22.05 in on the X, Y, and Z axes, respectively.

The table size on a single-pallet machine is 24.8 in x 19.7 in, with a maximum table load of 1,102 lbs. An optional two-pallet changer system features a table of 19.7 in x 19.7 in. With the two-pallet option, the VARIAXIS 730-5X II can easily be expanded to include Palletech material handling technology to increase spindle utilization dramatically through unattended operation.

Mazatrol MATRIX CNC provides the high-speed processing of large amounts of data required for high-precision simultaneous five-axis machining. Mazatrol MATRIX includes a 64-bit twin-engine CPU that supports 16 million pulse encoders on each linear axis for sub-micron resolution. Advanced software capabilities make Mazatrol MATRIX easier and safer to program and operate. A Voice Advisor verbally informs operators of machine alarms and when settings have been changed during manual operation. Enhanced visual 3D simulations aid the operator in identifying and correcting any interference conditions and running part program simulations while the machine is operating.
